I was headed to work one morning, and my mom was driving. We approached one of the busiest intersections and the light was not working. She immediately began to complain about how hard it would be to pass. Luckily, we got through that intersection in less than a minute, without coming to a complete stop. It was smooth sailing. It was as if her complaints were in vain.

As small as that moment was, I realized something. My mom declared that it was a problem beforehand. She had basically declared defeat in advance. Did she try to get pass the “upcoming problem” before complaining? No. Did she remain positive and claimed that she would get through the traffic in no time? No. She immediately began to stress about it.

How many times do we make this same mistake in our daily living? Instead of trusting that God will take care of our problems, whether big or small, we automatically go into a frenzy or panic. Sometimes we leave God as our last resort when all else fails. We claim defeat instead of victory, and when all fails we’re upset with God. How can we be upset with Him when we never placed our trust in Him or never even gave Him a chance to fight our battles?

Imagine how much easier our life would be if our first response to problems or potential issues was to ask God for His guidance. No matter how big or how small the issue may be, I guarantee you that God has everything all figured out. He just wants us to ask for His help. By placing your cares on Him, your life will not only be much easier, but you will find a sense of peace as well. Things won’t bother you as much. When situations arrive, you will have a clear mind and an indescribable peace within you; a sense of peace that only God can give you. Trust me, you’re not the only one struggling with letting go of all stresses and concerns. I too sometimes use God as my last resort in some situations. It does not have to be that way, though.

Sometimes we need to be reminded of who God really is, and what he is capable of. Sometimes we need to recite a portion of scripture to ourselves as a reminder that God is always with us. So whenever you’re in a tight situation try remembering these two simple pieces of scripture:

  • Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. (Psalm 55:22 NIV)
  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV)
